"The closure will make Elite Betar a corona hatchery"

The special ministerial committee decided last night to impose a week-long closure on the ultra-Orthodox city, in order to stop the spread of the Corona virus. Because the city is in Judea and Samaria, the military has the authority to impose a closure. Mayor Meir Rubinstein attacked the decision, blaming the Ministry of Health for not giving city residents enough time to organize for it.

"I sent a letter to the Minister of Health demanding the cancellation of the expected closure of the city," Rubinstein wrote, "Like the office's conduct over the last period, the decisions are made arbitrarily without any consultation and cooperation with the local authority.

"Regarding the closure itself: I strongly oppose the closure, which will do nothing and only make the city the virus's incubator. We are begging for evacuation of patients for weeks and we have a regular plan in place, but in vain. Taking patients out of town.

Mayor Rubinstein also added: "A closure announcement that comes out at 11:00 pm, when most of the city's residents are asleep, is a disgrace. The residents of Beitar Illit will wake up to a closed and closed city tomorrow without having to do so. I myself received the message through the media. The Ministry of Health in dealing with the second wave is embodied in this outrageous decision. "
