Imagine that a director, faced with the flop of his last film, suddenly decides to remove it from cinemas to rework the editing and shoot new scenes. This scenario is the one just experienced by the video game Crucible , the first major production of Amazon Game Studios. Released on May 20, this PC game between two teams of players was withdrawn from sale on July 1.
Crucible has been switched to “closed beta”, a development phase where only a limited number of players are allowed to test the game. It is unknown when the game will be released. A setback for Amazon, which hoped to make Crucible a new phenomenon in competitive online gaming. A necessity too, given the very poor start to the title. According to SteamCharts, Crucible gathered 10,600 players at its release. This figure melted in a few weeks to 360 people connected simultaneously.
