Out of 61 Italian universities examined by Censis, 42 completed the transition to distance learning within a week of the start of the lockdown for the coronavirus pandemic, the others mostly in two weeks. This is what emerges from the study against the background of the annual ranking of universities created by the research institute.

The resources made available by the Fund for the emergency needs of the university system are unanimously considered insufficient by the universities consulted. The survey, carried out in May, revealed "a reactive university system, capable of optimizing human and technical resources, despite the structural deficiencies that have plagued it for years, to give continuity to its mission".

Among the mega state universities (over 40 thousand enrolled), the University of Bologna , the University of Padua , that of Florence and La Sapienza in Rome remain stable in the top 4 .

The University of Pisa rises by one position , while. the University of Turin loses two positions and retreats to seventh place, after the Statale di Milano.

Last is the University of Naples Federico II, preceded by the University of Catania. The University of Bari is confirmed in third last position. Bocconi is also in the top position among the large non-state universities (over 10,000 enrolled), followed by Cattolica. Among the polytechnics this year is also the one in Milan, then the Iuav of Venice, which makes the Polytechnic of Turin move back to third, followed by that of Bari.
