Of course the years have passed, but their friendship, steeped in mutual admiration, has never wavered. It is almost as a neighbor that Jean-Jacques Goldman, who lives in London, came to see Hugues Aufray recording in the legendary studios of Abbey Road, his new album, Self-portrait .

This visit, as happy as it was impromptu, brought back fond memories to Hugues Aufray: “ I knew Jean-Jacques when he started. He told me that he learned “finger-picking” (a guitarist technique) thanks to me. This famous picking, I brought it from the United States. We haven't met much since. But I have always loved this boy, his way of being, his life and of course admired the way he led his great career. ”

Hugues Aufray, Jean-Jacques Goldman and ... Michael Jones
Jean-Jacques Goldman must have taken the compliments of Céline's unforgettable interpreter with great joy. His presence in the studios which saw the legend of the Beatles written even looked like a Madeleine de Proust since his great accomplice, Michael Jones, was there too, guitar slung, to accompany Hugues Aufray. Nostalgics of the 1990s will remember that with the late Carole Fredericks, they gave together to French song one of its most poignant texts, Born in 17 in Leidenstadt .
It wasn't Godlman's first surprise appearance. Last February, he paid tribute on video to Maxime Le Forestier when he received a Victoire de la musique d'honneur. And during confinement, he had dedicated his life-changing recovery to the nursing staff.

We do not know if the discreet visit of Jean-Jacques Goldman is the sign of his return to the front of the stage. On the other hand, we are sure that the Selfportrait album will indeed be ready to be released at the end of the summer. And Hugues Aufray has already promised it, he will leave as proud as Stewball , the white horse of his famous song, on all roads in France in the fall. With perhaps a tremendous surprise: the advent of a concert, a new legendary trio Aufray / Jones / Goldman ... Fans are already dreaming of it.
