SORRENTO (NAPLES) - Letters made near the manhole covers of Corso Italia and Piazza Lauro in Sorrento (Naples) - an easy way to invite citizens and foreigners not to throw cigarette butts there - have attracted the attention of many today. Then, arrived in Piazza Tasso, here is another surprise, a multimedia column placed almost under the statue of Torquato Tasso from where, at the end of August 9, thanks to images, you will be able to find out what damage causes the deliberate abandonment of butts and waste in the environment.

Impacting images of fish, sea turtles and other inhabitants of the sea in whose belly cigarette butts end and today represented in a "crime scene" in CSI style positioned next to the column.

Will all this be enough to make us understand that we must not abandon waste and butts around sand, manholes? This is what Marevivo, in collaboration with BAT (British American Tobacco) Italy, the Ministry of the Environment and the city of Sorrento hope will happen. With this new and impactful campaign, the aim is to reduce pollution damage. Together, public and private, they joined together to launch an initiative with the emblematic title "Small gestures, big crimes" to raise public awareness of the consequences of "littering", a phenomenon that every year 'costs' over 4.5 trillion butts scattered environment. According to the latest FAO data, 6 trillion cigarettes are smoked worldwide every year and 4.5 trillion of these are dispersed in the environment.

Butts are one of the wastes found most on beaches, they release harmful substances into the sea, creating significant damage to the marine ecosystem. (HANDLE).
