The person responsible for the death of Mónica Spear , Gerardo José Ramírez Contreras , alias 'El Gato', who had a 26-year sentence, died on July 13 in prison due to tuberculosis.

Six years have passed since the death of the Venezuelan actress, who was killed along with her husband Thomas Henry Berry , in a tragic assault on the road while they were on vacation in their country. Her daughter Maya Spear was injured, but survived.

Ramírez Contreras was the one who fired the firearm that killed the couple. The murderer entered prison where he was sentenced to more than two decades behind bars, however, he died six years after the crime. This was announced by journalist Deivis Ramírez Miranda through his Twitter account.

Ramírez Miranda assured that the murderer died in the El Dorado prison, Bolívar state, a town located in eastern Venezuela.

"The young man was sentenced to 26 years in prison for qualified homicide. At first he had been held in El Rodeo II, then he was transferred to the Tocuyito prison (Carabobo), and from there to the Bolivar state," the journalist explained.

"The transfer was due to his misconduct in the prison and disciplinary sanction was applied to him. There he presented a clinical picture of severe pulmonary affection. He was treated by prison health personnel, but died after being complicated," confirmed Ramírez Miranda.

Without a doubt, the death of the former beauty queen caused a great shock, since her death was unjust and sudden, in addition to orphaning her daughter, who at the time was five years old.

Since the fateful death of her parents, the now 12-year-old girl lives with her maternal grandparents in the United States, and year after year, through her social profile, Maya remembers her mom, both on the day that she would have been her birthday, like the day he saw her leave.

Maya's grandmother, Inge Mootz Spear , in 2017 told People en Español that her granddaughter really likes to see photos of her mom and dad. "When she sees the three of them together, she smiles, perhaps remembering the happy moments she lived with them," she told the publication.

It was in January 2019, during the actress' mourning anniversary, that the Spear family shared images of Monica in the company of her husband Thomas and their daughter Maya, in which the three appeared smiling, just one day before the terrible crime.

In December 2019,  Rafael Spear , the actress's father, who also manages her granddaughter's account, shared an emotional memory of her daughter, where, as he tells it, Spear was singing "to her beautiful Venezuela." Along with the moving post, the gentleman wrote the  hashtag  #ProhibidoOlvidar.

On October 10, the Venezuelan would have celebrated what would be her 35th birthday. Without a doubt, all her loved ones and friends will continue to remember her with great affection.
