His story had upset many French people. Jacqueline Sauvage, a woman sentenced to ten years in prison for having killed her violent husband before being pardoned by President François Hollande, has died at the age of 72, announces La République du Center.
Jacqueline Sauvage had been the victim of violence by her husband during 47 years of union, before killing him with three shots from a shotgun in 2012. She then became, despite herself, the symbol of victims of domestic violence.
His story brought to the screen
After being sentenced in 2015 to ten years in prison for the murder, she was the subject of a massive petition to seek presidential pardon - granted in 2016 - due to the circumstances of the crime. During the trial, she had notably recounted years of violence and rape committed by the father on two of his daughters.
The story of Jacqueline Sauvage was also brought to the screen in 2018, in a TV movie broadcast on TF1. Actress Muriel Robin, very committed to the cause of violence against women, embodied her role.
