The Corona National Information and Knowledge Center has released a document today (Thursday) in which it addresses the advances of the world's pharmaceutical companies developing the vaccine against the virus. The assessment in Israel is that the unprecedented resources invested around the world in the fight against corona and in finding a vaccine for the disease - will lead to a vaccine being found by the end of the year.

According to the data currently known in Israel, there are 20 companies in the world that are conducting clinical trials to find the vaccine and another 130 companies that have already reached pre-clinical stages.

Beyond that, there are six companies that have entered the final clinical phase or are very close to it: the British University of Oxford working in collaboration with AstraZeneca, the American companies "Modern" and "Pfizer" working in collaboration with BioNTech, and three Chinese companies - Sinovac, CanSino and SinoPharm.

These companies are already conducting trials on thousands of people, and are already receiving widespread funding from China, the US administration and the UK, alongside mass vaccination preparations as some are already actually producing vaccine doses in case the results are encouraging.

Another key factor supporting the various companies is the COVAX initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Coalition for Epidemic Innovation (CEPI). This project has so far been joined by 165 countries from around the world that will receive equally from the vaccine that is found, and ten percent will be kept as a reserve.

In this respect, if one of the companies reaches a positive result in the coming months - it will be possible to produce more than a billion vaccine doses by the end of 2020, and by the end of 2021 there will be billions of vaccine doses on the market.

The target set by the US FDA - and targeted worldwide - is for a vaccine to be 50 percent good. This level is achieved in influenza vaccines and it prevents mass distribution and infection of patients every year.

1,967 have been infected with the virus in the last day

Meanwhile, according to updated data published by the Ministry of Health tonight (Thursday) regarding the disease in Corona in Israel, 1,967 new infections were diagnosed yesterday. Currently, there are 69,603 verified from the outbreak of the plague and 25,628 active patients.

749 corona patients are currently hospitalized in hospitals across the country. Among the patients - 328 are defined as in critical condition, and 102 are respirated. Number of victims: 499 people.

Divided by the areas of spread, these are the localities defined as "red": Bnei Brak, Modi'in Illit, Elad, Qalansawa, Ein Mahel, Kfar Metzar, Mevo Horon and Mitzpe Jericho. Among the "orange" cities: Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Beitar Illit, Taibeh, Nazareth and Netivot.
