(ANSA) - ROME, JULY 31 - Amazon will invest 10 billion dollars to build a constellation of 3,236 satellites that will serve to provide "reliable and inexpensive broadband services" to communities that do not have internet access. This was announced by the Seattle company after it got the go-ahead of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The Amazon project, announced last spring, is called Kuiper and is a competitor of the Starlink project of Elon Musk's Space X company.
"A project of this magnitude requires considerable efforts and resources, and due to the nature of the constellations in the low Earth orbit, it is not the type of initiative that can start small," reads an Amazon post. The 10 billion investment, highlights the giant from Jeff Bezos, "will create jobs and infrastructure across the United States" and "will make broadband accessible to communities around the world."
