€ 1,000 for “those forgotten by the Covid premium”. Visiting Toulon to meet the players in the home help sector, Emmanuel Macron promised the release of 160 million euros for the benefit of home carers for the elderly or disabled. Funded half by the State and half by the departments, this sum will allow the professionals concerned to obtain premiums equivalent to those paid to other nursing staff.
Home helpers, who intervene in support of 800,000 elderly people with loss of autonomy and 300,000 people with disabilities, were until now "the forgotten of the Covid premium", noted the president. "Meaning, recognition, funding, attractiveness of these professions" will be "at the heart" of a forthcoming law on autonomy, he continued.
This bonus, which will be paid "before Christmas", after examination of the files "between September and December", will "fully recognize the role" they played during the epidemic crisis, according to him. In mid-June, the home employment federations had cried "injustice", being surprised that professionals in the sector - 97% women - were excluded from the bonus granted to front-line staff in the face of coronavirus. Emmanuel Macron also recalled that parent-sick leave will be put in place in October and will benefit caregivers.
