The Variety website reports that a sequel series is currently being developed at Sony Studios, with two of the series' main stars, Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano, expected to return to star in it and this time they will also serve as producers.

"who is the boss?" Was an American situation comedy that first aired in 1984 and aired for eight seasons until ending in 1992. At the center of the series is the character of Tony Misley (Tony Danza), a widower of Italian descent and a former football player, who had to find an alternative livelihood after a shoulder injury so he could comfortably raise his daughter Samantha (Alyssa Milano).

Misley moves in with his daughter at the home of the divorced and successful businesswoman Angela Bauer (Judith Lite) who lives in a upscale suburb with her mother Mona (Catherine Helmond) and her son Jonathan (Danny Pintauro), where he begins working as a housekeeper.

The series, which aired for eight seasons on ABC, garnered more than 33 million viewers per episode and became a hit in the US and many other countries, including Israel. It was considered a breakthrough in terms of social conventions and stereotypes regarding the gender division of roles between men and women. The traditional between Angela the tough career woman, and Tony the rough but sensitive housewife.

Over the years, the series created by Martin Cohan and Blake Hunter has been nominated five times for the Golden Globe Award with one win for the late Katherine Helmond in the Supporting Actress category, and ten times for the Emmy Award with one win in the Lighting Management category.

The sequel will reportedly take place 30 years after the original series' plot and will focus on the lives of Samantha, who returned to live in the original house that starred in the series, where she is raising her son as a single mother alongside her retired father Tony. This time, too, the series will touch on social issues such as generational differences, parenting methods, etc.

Sources close to the production said that currently Lite and Pintauro are not expected to take part in the sequel series, but will make efforts to find a way to incorporate them later. Helmond, who was one of the stars of the prominent and beloved series, passed away in 2019.
