At least 2,700 people were evacuated overnight due to a violent fire that broke out on the French Riviera, west of Marseille, which devastated over 1,000 hectares of land and has not yet been tamed.
Among the evacuated people there are many tourists who stay in campsites on the Mediterranean coast. For the moment there are no serious injuries, but the damages are huge, the firefighters have announced, stressing that the flames "are not yet under control": the situation should improve at the end of the morning, with the fading of the wind. Currently, around 1,800 firefighters are engaged in the Martigues area, about 38 km from Marseille.
