(ANSA) - NEW YORK, AUGUST 07 - Prince Harry of England pointed his finger at social media companies for creating a "hate crisis" and called for a "significant digital reform". In an article for the American magazine Fast Company, the Duke of Sussex revealed that he and his wife Meghan Markle began campaigning for a change on social media "just over four weeks ago".
Their personal action came at the same time as the launch of the Stop Hate for Profit campaign, which convinced several important advertisers, first in the US and then globally, to suspend advertisements on Facebook and Instagram to protest against laxity in the application of policies on inciting hate. "Many of us appreciate social media - wrote Harry - They are an apparently free resource for connecting, sharing and organizing. But in reality they are not free, the cost is high. Every time you do it, they learn new things about you. Our information, private data ;; and habits are exchanged for advertising space and money. The price we are paying is much higher than it seems. " Hence, he urged advertisers to "use their leverage to demand a proper change from the places that offer a vehicle of perodal propagation and division." (HANDLE)
