Colorful protest (08/06/2020)

With dresses and suits in rainbow colors, Polish opposition politicians made a mark against the re-elected head of state when President Andrzej Duda was sworn in. With their colorful choice of clothes they protested against the negative attitude of the national-conservative politician towards people of the LGBT community.

Some MPs, including members of the left-wing Razem party, also wore rainbow-colored masks. The parliamentarians of the ruling law and justice party (PiS) supported Duda with singing and applause.

Beaten and lost (08/05/2020)

Cricket does not play a major role in the German sports landscape. So-called tests between two nations offer plenty of spectacle. Here Ireland's Harry Tector flies past the ball despite great efforts, England's Batsman (in German: Schlagman) Adil Rashid starts the run. In the end, Ireland won.

Galloping (01.08.2020)

The horses of Mongolia usually live outside all year round and look for their own food. Here a breeder from the Western Ujimqin banner shows his animals. The region belongs to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. Mongolia's traditionally nomadic people are estimated to hold around three million horses. The Mongolian horse is one of the small horses and resists temperature fluctuations from 30 degrees in summer to minus 40 degrees in winter.

Precious Dress (07/30/2020)

Every Muslim should go on a pilgrimage to Mecca once in a lifetime. More than two million people did this last year. But 2020 is different: Because of the corona virus, only a few thousand believers were allowed to come. The Hajj started on Tuesday and continues until Sunday. The high point of the ritual is to walk around the Kaaba, the most important sanctuary in Islam. The picture shows how the temple gets its dress: the kiswa, a brocaded cloak embroidered with gold, adorned with verses from the Koran.

The nozzle goes to him (07/26/2020)

Completely detached - on a flyboard you can take off spectacularly up to nine meters high and seem to float above the water. Pressurized water that is pumped up from the hose of a jet ski makes it possible. Flyboarding is not as difficult as it looks; talented beginners often get along well after an hour. This photo shows a Belarusian soldier from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, who showed his skills on Saturday at the Firefighters' Day in Minsk - and could also wave flags on the flyboard.

Jump into the unknown (07/25/2020)

A woman jumps from a bridge into the water in Cadiz, a city in southern Spain. In fact, the situation in Spain is currently like a disturbance into the unknown: the country is one of the countries that have been hardest hit by the corona pandemic, in recent weeks the number of infections has risen again in some regions of the country and the season of the Spanish second League ended in farce after half a soccer team tested positive for the virus.

It looks cute, but the situation is serious: Mexico has reported a record increase in coronavirus infections. There were more than 8,400 cases in one day, more than ever before. However, restaurants have recently been allowed to reopen, including this one in Mexico City. In order to guarantee the distance between the guests, the operators came up with a special measure: teddy bears at each table.

Sink Gods (07/19/2020)

Every year in India, Hindus celebrate a ten-day festival in honor of Ganesha, a deity often depicted with an elephant head. This year it will be time again at the end of August, which is already giving many craftsmen - regardless of the crisis, Corona - secure orders. Every year the celebrations include the ritual of submerging a statue of Ganesha or the like in the water. In Mumbai alone, 150,000 sunk portraits were counted last year.

Between all chairs (07/08/2020)

The IG Metall union has installed 2,000 empty folding seats in front of the Hamburg Airbus plant in Finkenwerder - to protest the planned cut of more than 2,000 jobs at the aircraft manufacturer's location. Airbus is badly hit by the aviation crisis: Airlines that are hardly allowed to fly do not buy new aircraft. The coal mine could end up paying the workforce as so often. Many of the seats have photos of employees of the factory, some of them self-painted pictures of children who have drawn their parents. There is fate behind every place, that is to say.
