Undaunted and fit: a 72-year-old man chased a stolen van on a bicycle in Frankfurt am Main on Friday and finally caught the thief. The senior had recently received a flower delivery from the rightful driver of the van, the police said on Sunday. The driver had left the key in the unloading process; a thief took the opportunity and ran away with the van.

The 72-year-old immediately took up the chase, reported the theft to two police officers on the way, then cycled on quickly and discovered the van a little later on a turning hammer. When he opened the driver's door, the alleged thief - a drunk 63-year-old - was still behind the wheel. He hit the 72-year-old in the upper body.

Unimpressed by this, however, he pulled the alleged criminal from the driver's seat before the police patrol rushed to arrest the suspect. An alcohol test on the 63-year-old showed a value of more than 2.3 per thousand. "Above all, it is thanks to the level-headed commitment of the senior that nothing more happened and that the sprinter could be returned to the right hands," said the police report.
