The Final 8 of the Champions League begins this week: this unprecedented format ensures a great spectacle for football fans, to follow

After several months of hiatus, the UEFA Champions League made a comeback last week with the end of the round of 16. From now on, it is the turn of the quarter-finals to captivate the audience, with a new format, called Final 8. This principle, adopted by other sports, consists of a week-long mini-tournament during which the eight teams still competing against each other in knockout matches. Another special feature of this format is that the matches all take place in the same city, namely, in the case of the Champions League, Lisbon. In fact, within the framework of the competition, the quarter-finals take place without a return match: during the four matches which take place at the end of the week, each eliminated team will be eliminated for good. This promises meetings under high tension which will follow one another at a frantic pace until the final, on August 23. (See RMC Sport offers here)
