  • What is the after-sun for?

When the sun shines, we like to expose ourselves to it, to feel the heat on our body and to take color. Summer is the time to do it more often and for longer. It is important to be aware that this heat is not without consequences. These are ultra-violet (UV) rays that can damage the skin and cells. It is therefore necessary to protect yourself with a sunscreen during exposure, by renewing the application regularly. Sensitive and fair skin are also the most fragile. However, after taking the sun, the skin is weakened, even if it has been protected. It can be dried out, torn, damaged, and therefore needs a boost to regain strength. This is where the after-sun comes in.

There are many products out there, but all of them have similar basic components that will nourish, hydrate and heal the skin to regenerate itself. The active ingredients and fatty acids from plants such as argan or jojoba, contained in the after-sun, moisturize the skin for up to 24 hours, so that it is softer and more elastic. In addition, the after-sun soothes in case of sunburn or feeling of tightness. It also contains vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from UV rays. Associated with regenerating active ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin E turns the after-sun into a product with anti-aging properties. Finally, most after-suns preserve and prolong the tan, by retaining the melanin which darkens the surface of the skin. All these properties make after-sun a "must have" during the summer, because, in addition to taking care of your skin on a daily basis, it will make your tan last longer!

    When to apply after-sun?

In general, after sun exposure is applied, but the ideal is to apply it morning and evening for greater effectiveness. With each use, the skin must be clean, free from cream, chlorine or salt residue, so it is after a shower, in the hours following exposure to the sun, that you can put on after -sun on your skin. Indeed, one should not wait too long, otherwise, the efficiency will be lower. And it is when your skin has felt hot and has lost water that it needs this treatment. If you wear makeup, know that it can be used as a base. Apply your after-sun by massaging your skin, without overdoing the quantity, but putting in just enough to nourish it.

After-sun, moisturizing milk, what's the difference?

You will find after-suns in different forms: gel, lotion, cream, oil ... You can choose the one you like the most and which is the most practical for you. A little advice: dry and sensitive skin will prefer oils or balms which are more nourishing; milks and gels have the advantages of not leaving a greasy film on the skin, and of being more refreshing.

Also, be sure to choose an after-sun that is suitable for the face and body, so you don't have to have two different products. To make the right choice, you will have to turn to composition. Even though the basics are the same, some after-suns have higher amounts of certain components, or additional components in order to provide other qualities, but make sure they are kind to your skin. For information, the hydration provided by moisturizing active ingredients is generally found in hyaluronic acid which will also promote the elasticity of the skin, as well as vitamin B5 and glycerin, which prevent water from evaporating. Those that will protect the skin are shea butter or jojoba oil. For soothing active ingredients, aloe vera has unparalleled virtues that will calm the pain caused by the sun while hydrating the skin; the cucumber will also have a refreshing role. Finally, other elements must be taken into account, such as the fragrance and the origin of the components. For the perfume, it depends on each one. Of course, it is nice to have skin that smells good, with a fruity or floral scent, but, depending on the nature, the addition of a perfume can make the product more aggressive on the skin, even allergenic on a skin. sensitive skin. So it may be better to choose an after-sun that is odorless, but effective and gentle on the skin. Some after-suns have a satin texture, and make the skin sparkle after application: once again, it's according to taste and color! Regarding the origin of the components, some will opt for natural, organic, and others not. Ideally, prefer a treatment with the simplest and most natural components possible.
