Bear: Costa, no killing is a fixed point

On the "bear question" for the Ministry of the Environment "some thresholds of comparison are insurmountable, such as killing and the protection of motherhood". This was reiterated by the Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa meeting today at the dicastery with the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, accompanied by the Councilor for Agriculture Giulia Zanotelli and the head of the forestry body Romano Masè.

A "productive and satisfying" meeting, Costa defines it in a note explaining that "the discussion was wide and open, beyond prejudices and marked by the comparison between the different positions. We agreed that a scientific table will be opened between the Ministry , Ispra with the agency system and the autonomous province of Trento, which will allow for a picture of the situation of knowledge from a scientific point of view. The aim is to find together a way for the management of the fauna, the mitigation and coexistence with the 'man".

"We will work together with an institutional spirit - notes the minister - while aware of the different respective positions and with the intention of finding a solution based on scientific elements that takes into account the sensitivity of the country. The demonstration of the fact that when politics works at the service of citizens and the common good manages to overcome all barriers ". We also tackled the topic of "problematic bears, with particular reference to M49 and JJ4, that is Papillon and Gaia, as I renamed them - continued Costa - and we welcome the willingness of President Fugatti to find shared solutions that do not include the option of killing and that take into account any existing anthropogenic load.
