The Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Wednesday 209 deaths and 7,663 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

It is the second day in a row with more than 200 deaths, thus reaching 5,213 fatalities. In addition, the country already has 268,574 infections since the start of the pandemic.

In its morning part, the health portfolio confirmed the death of 84 people (39 men, 44 women and one whose gender was not specified), of which 56 resided in the Province, 26 in the City of Buenos Aires, one in Tierra del Fire and one in Mendoza.

The evening report added 125 deaths : 69 men (48 from Province, 16 from City, two from Mendoza, one from Chubut, one from Río Negro and one from Santa Fe), and 55 women (38 from PBA, 15 from CABA and two from Río Negro).

The mortality rate is 110 people per million inhabitants and the general fatality rate reaches 1.9% of confirmed cases. However, in those over 60 years of age, it reaches 10.5%.

Of the more than 7,600 cases of the day, the province of Buenos Aires accounted for 67.2%, reporting 5,153 infections. Thus, it reached 166,395 positives to date. The City, for its part, reported 1,163 cases and accumulated 73,466 infected.

On Tuesday 19,174 new samples were taken and, since the arrival of the pandemic in the country, 891,817 diagnostic tests for this disease were carried out, which is equivalent to 19,653.6 samples per million inhabitants. The incidence is 575 cases per 100,000 people.

The positivity index, which measures the number of cases found on tests performed, was 44.1% country average, 36.1% in the City and 49.8% in the province of Buenos Aires.

To date, the total number of discharges is 187,283, exceeding 70% in relation to the infected reported.

83.2% of those hospitalized in intensive care for coronavirus are in the City and Province of Buenos Aires.

At the head of the daily report, the Secretary of Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti, pointed out that the 1.9% fatality rate is "a low percentage, a stable number" that is measured in relation to those infected but asked not to lose sight of the number of deaths, which has been increasing.

In this same sense, he explained that the lethality of the virus rises in direct relation to the age of the infected and the pre-existing diseases of the patient.

Regarding the growing number of deaths in recent hours, Vizzotti clarified that there may be a difference between the date of death and when the death is reported, but asked not to lose sight that "that person is not a number and neither is his whole family ".

In addition, he confirmed that Argentina surpassed Mexico and Ecuador in incidence of the disease but that "mortality per million inhabitants remains below that of most countries in the region", with an increase "that is not so accelerated" and that allows "the health system to continue providing answers."
