Landslide in Valmalenco overwhelms cars, 3 dead

(ANSA) - SONDRIO, 12 AUGUST - Three people died as a result of the landslide that broke off in the late afternoon today in Chiareggio, in Valtellina.
   The deceased people - according to what communicated by Areu - are a woman, a man and a girl, while in the same car there was another child, 5 years old, brought in red code by helicopter to Pope John XXIII. Other people involved only marginally have moved away, while it is not yet known - they still say from Areu - if there are other people under the landslide.
   The avalanche of debris swooped downstream at the entrance to the town of Chiareggio, a tourist resort at a height of Chiesa in Valmalenco (Sondrio), dragging the car into the stream below.
