(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 11 - The Ministry of the Environment eCorepla signed the protocol for the launch of an experimental project for the management of the 'marine litter' aimed at containing plastic both around the mouths of the main Italian rivers and in marine protected areas. This was announced by a statement.

The collection of floating waste will be carried out by the Ministry's anti-pollution fleet as part of the marine pollution prevention and fight service. The project will last twenty-four months and will involve fifteen ports in rotation (five at a time), of which the fleet's vehicles will confer on Corepla, the National Consortium for the Collection, Recycling and Recovery of Plastic Packaging, the marine litterraccolto. The Consortium will be responsible for managing, verifying, measuring and analyzing the quantity and quality of the waste objects of the experimentation coming from the boats. The synergy put in place will make it possible to recover up to 36 tons of waste from our sea.

"Marine litter is a global problem - explains Minister Sergio Costa - with great and serious repercussions on ecosystems. Furthermore, they represent a waste of resources and energy. The growing awareness of the States is leading to an increasingly widespread response at the international level. In Italy, the experimental project put in place with the Coreplac constitutes a concrete action that integrates the initiatives already undertaken by the Ministry of the Environment, such as the 'Salvamare' law, to clean up the sea from plastic and safeguard it ".

"The Agreement signed with the Ministry is part of the program of experimental and innovative activities that the Consortium promotes for the protection of our sea. Monitoring the quantity and type of waste collected is essential to understand the causes of littering and to identify the actions to be taken to prevent it , in synergy with the institutions "- says Giorgio Quagliuolo, president of Corepla - The dispersion of waste in the environment is mainly due to incorrect management and careless behavior - continues Quagliuolo -.

If collected in a differentiated way, plastic packaging is recycled or recovered and is transformed into new objects, making the circular economy grow as a shared value. "(ANSA).
