A train derailed today in north-east Scotland, in an area hit by floods in recent days. This was announced by the police for public transport, while the Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, in a tweet spoke of an "extremely serious" accident, without however providing any death toll. The incident took place in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire.

While the spokesman for the railway network of Scotland said that "it is still early to confirm the exact nature and severity of the accident".
Some social media posts show pictures of smoke rising from the site of the derailment. Several ambulances and a medical rescue helicopter are parked in a nearby field.
