The Italian and Spanish health authorities will have to "redouble their efforts" to achieve a reduction in coronavirus cases in their respective countries: said today Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergency Program, during the WHO daily briefing.
"We hope Italy and Spain begin to see stabilization" of coronavirus cases, "but the question is how to reduce them," Ryan said in response to a question. "This requires a doubling of public health efforts because the virus will not go down by itself, it has to be pushed down (...) now we have to push the virus down, this will not happen spontaneously".
