The info not to be missed

We breathe a little better this Thursday, and for good reason. The heatwave episode that began a week ago is coming to an end: a last bulletin from Météo France maintains the orange heatwave alert for only 21 departments, mainly in the east of the country.

Already last night, temperatures had dropped significantly with the passage of multiple thunderstorms over the entire western half of France. Strong winds and precipitation have also caused flooding and damage in the Val d'Oise, Yonne and even Calvados. During the night, three houses were also destroyed by lightning in Haute-Vienne.

What to also remember

• The number of premature births dropped during lockdown. This is the observation drawn up by two distinct teams of researchers, in Ireland and Denmark. According to them, this phenomenon can have several explanations: the drop in the number of infections during confinement, the drop in stress during this period, or even the drop in medical consultations which could push specialists to trigger premature births in order to avoid complications.

• According to INSEE and the criteria of the International Labor Office (ILO), the unemployment rate did drop during confinement, but this statistic is misleading. Unemployed people, confined and who have therefore not been able to look for work, do not fall into the category of unemployed in the sense defined by the ILO.

• A stunning victory: the qualification - in extremis - of PSG for the semi-finals of the Champions League was celebrated with honking and fireworks on Wednesday evening on the Champs Elysées. The opportunity for the supporters to relax after 90 minutes of suffering in a match with an unexpected scenario.

The unexpected info

A scent of tourism and hops. In Strasbourg, a company offers a treasure hunt entirely dedicated to beer. The course, which lasts three hours, is punctuated with historical facts on the creation of many Alsatian craft beers. Obviously, it also allows its players to taste several local beverages.
