The police in Hanover pulled a cyclist with a breath alcohol level of more than five per mille from the traffic. The 36-year-old was noticed late on Wednesday evening in the Oberricklingen district because he had driven large serpentine lines, the police said. He also smelled strongly of alcohol.
A voluntary breath alcohol test by the officials finally showed a value of 5.19 per thousand. The man was not allowed to continue his journey and was taken to a police station where another blood test was taken.
According to the police, the 36-year-old hardly showed any signs of failure despite his considerable drunkenness. On the alcohol prevention website "Kenn Dein Limit" operated by the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA), warnings of "signs of paralysis" are given when the blood alcohol level reaches three per thousand. Sometimes the concentration can already be fatal.
The man is now being investigated for drunkenness in traffic.
