Stronger than Joël Dicker and Guillaume Musso, but less than Nicolas Sarkozy? The "Twilight" vampires! Barely landed in bookstores in the heart of summer, “Midnight Sun”, the fifth volume of Stephenie Meyer's cult series, settled in the first week in second place in the ranking of best-selling books, produced by GFK for Livres Hebdo. It must be said that fans' expectations were high, volume IV, "Revelation", being released 12 years ago, on August 3, 2008.

Presented as opus 5 of Stephenie Meyer's horror series, “Midnight Sun” actually tells the same story as the first “Twilight”, but through a new point of view, that of the vampire hero, the handsome Edward Cullen. Happy publisher, Hachette Livre made a first printing of 75,000 copies, but the demand from booksellers was such that an additional printing of 15,000 copies had already been made before the novel was even released. In four days, “Midnight Sun” has already sold 21,000 copies. A new reprint is already in progress.

No sixth book planned

Launched in 2005, the Twilight series - "Fascination", "Temptation", "Hesitation", "Revelation" - has become cult and each novel has been adapted for cinema, the last having even given rise to two films. Worn by two actors who have become stars, Kristen Stewart, who plays the role of Bella Swan, and Robert Pattinson, who plays the mysterious Edward Cullen, the feature films have generated more than $ 3 billion (2.5 billion euros) in cinemas, and attracted more than 19 million spectators in France! The books and their derivatives - "The Call of Blood - The Second Life of Bree Tanner", The Official Illustrated Guide Twilight and "To Life and Death" - have sold over 160 million copies worldwide , including 7 million in France.

To those who hope for a sixth volume, Stephenie Meyer has already answered that it was not planned. For the simple reason that in the second opus, Edward is in depression and it would therefore not be very funny to read, explains one at Hachette Livre. In contrast, the author revealed that she is working on two stories in the Twilight universe. The vein is not about to run out!
