Russia said it had produced the first batch of its coronavirus vaccine, after President Vladimir Putin announced on Tuesday that he approved a Covid-19 vaccine as the first in the world.
Putin's announcement of the vaccine was met with caution by scientists and the World Health Organization who said it still needed a rigorous security check. "The first batch of the new coronavirus vaccine developed by the Gamaleya research institute has been produced," the Moscow Ministry of Health said in a statement cited by Russian news agencies.
