Funds of the Interior Ministry for 11 million euros - saved on the migrant reception chapter - will be turned over to Tunisia which will use them to strengthen the control of its maritime borders. The news - as far as we know - emerged during the visit to Tunis by the ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, Luciana Lamorgese and Luigi Di Maio, accompanied by European commissioners Ylva Johansson and Oliver Varhelji. The delegation met with the President of the Republic Kais Saied, the prime minister in charge Hichem Mechichi and the interim foreign minister Selma Enneifer. The resources will be used for the maintenance of the patrol boats, the training of the security forces, radar and an information system that will promptly alert the gendarmerie when the boats of migrants are at sea in order to block them in Tunisian waters.
"Italy is always at the forefront of supporting Tunisia with concrete actions, but to counter the smuggling of migrants an extra effort is needed 'because' the pressure exerted on our country, in particular on the island of Lampedusa and on Sicily, creates a situation of serious difficulty aggravated by the Covid 19 health emergency ". This was stated by the Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese , in Tunis.
In the meeting with the President of Tunisia Saied "I said that it is essential to strengthen the fight against human traffickers, especially in the areas of Sfax and Madia. Italy is ready to provide all the technical assistance it needs". This was stated by the Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, in Tunis. "I want to be very clear: those who arrive in Italy irregularly will not be able to take advantage of any regularization opportunities. The only result of an irregular arrival is a repatriation". "On the other hand - adds Di Maio - the migratory phenomenon is very complex and we believe that it must be addressed in a broad framework. For this reason we have reaffirmed Italy's utmost willingness to pursue negotiations for a framework agreement in the migration field that envisage virtuous forms of integration ".
The procedure for the regularization of employment relationships started on 1 June for agriculture, domestic work and personal assistance was concluded: 207,542 applications received from the portal of the Ministry of the Interior, mainly from home helps and carers (85%); the rest concerned subordinate work. Lombardy is the region from which the highest number of requests for the domestic work and personal assistance sector were sent (47,357) while Campania is in first place for subordinate work (6,962).
