China, USA respect the 'red line' on arms in Taiwan

(ANSA) - BEIJING, AUGUST 17 - The US should respect China's "red line" on Taiwan, after the island was given the green light on August 14 to purchase Lockheed Martin's new F-16 superjet production with the Pentagon announcement of the $ 62 billion ten-year contract.
    Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the issue is of "central interest" for China, determined to vigorously defend its sovereignty. Beijing has repeatedly expressed its opposition to the sale of US arms to Taipei, which is believed to be in violation of the principle of "One China and the three communications of China and the United States" dedicated to the subject.
