Are you a married man? So your wife must be making your life miserable - that's the message of the Ministry of Health's masked broadcast starring Israel Katorza. • Opinion

  • What year are we in, 1980?

Since he appeared on the Corona Committee in the Knesset and spoke (even with a smile) about the pain of cultural and entertainment figures - those who understood in the high windows that the comedian Israel Katorza was good at convincing the public with laughter and humor, and recruited the unemployed entertainer.

• Katorza: "What, we do not exist at all?"

So far, so good. I am also in favor of humor as a means of conveying a message in a graceful way. But the Ministry of Health's mask broadcast Vectorza ran in the media goes beyond the bounds of graceful humor, from 2020 to forty years back.

For those unfamiliar, the video is based on a sketch by Katorza in the center of which a lost man arrives at the supermarket at the behest of his wife. As for every item on the shopping list that the woman wrote to him, he calls her desperately as if he were a reprimanded or rejected child, in order to receive instructions, and she does so in a dismissive tone and shouts on the other end of the line.

In "The Mask Broadcast" the creators and the husband (Katorza) inquired a bit with his wife, this time with a certain assertiveness, whether to buy (not only the wife knows what is needed and what is missing at home) peach juice? Maybe shellfish pasta? But his wife does not understand him, and not only because the words swirl in the mask cloth covering his mouth, she does not understand her man long before the corona. She's been opaque to him for twenty years. This is how Katorza claims towards the end of the video.

Later, Katorza remarks to the maskless couple ("Dude, this is personal") and reminds them to keep a distance of two meters from each other. "But this is my wife," the husband resents, and Vectorza replies, "so keep a distance of four," he stops and disappears.

After all, you will have a broadcast in 2020. Apart from the shopping task and the limitations of the corona, it turns out that the average married man is a coward and a tramp and must also face a tyrannical and frightening woman who does not understand him, and makes his life bitter. If that is not enough, it is advisable for a man to keep a double distance from his wife, so that God forbid he does not get infected with nerves and anger.

Say, is this humor still funny to anyone today? Only me and my female sisters accept these jokes as an insult?

I do not know what the effectiveness of the broadcast is, and whether it has been used to increase the number of masked people in the public domain. What can be clearly seen and heard is that Katorza and his operator, the Ministry of Health, are perpetuating a chauvinistic and merging worldview at our expense.

So Ministry of Health, take a free recommendation: On the way to public education for wearing a mask and reducing the number of people infected in Corona, you should first get rid of your insulting and contemptuous treatment of women. There are enough writers who can convey with a healthy sense of humor the message about the importance of the mask, yes, even on the nose, without turning the woman into an elf.

Although this is a lousy year by all accounts, but it is still 2020, so move on.
