Migrants: Interior Ministry unlocks 11 million euros in aid to Tunisia

(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 17 - Viminale funds for 11 million euros - saved on the migrant reception chapter - will be turned over to Tunisia which will use them to strengthen the control of its maritime borders. The novelty - as far as we know - emerged during the visit to Tunis by the ministers of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, Luciana Lamorgese and Luigi Di Maio, accompanied by European commissioners Ylva Johansson and Oliver Varhelji. The delegation met with the President of the Republic KaisSaied, the prime minister in charge Hichem Mechich and the interim foreign minister Selma Enneifer. The resources will be used for the maintenance of the patrol boats, the training of the security forces, radar and an information system that will promptly alert the police when the boats of migrants are at sea in order to block them in Tunisian waters.
