British aviation analyst Alex Matchers, who works with the BBC, Sky and Al Jazeera, among others, announced yesterday evening that Saudi Arabia will allow flights from Israel to pass over its territory. Airlines that can benefit greatly from such a route are already exploring and when this is implemented, there will also be quite a few effects on Israeli tourists.

Currently, a flight from Israel to Eastern destinations is making a long detour because planes flying from Israel, apart from Air India flights, are not allowed to fly over Saudi Arabia. The meaning of the long round affects the price of the flight, since a longer flight consumes more fuel, the plane is used longer and thus less available for additional flights and of course every hour on the air costs the airlines quite a bit of money for other reasons.

A permit from Saudi Arabia to fly over its territory could shorten the flight to Thailand for example by about two hours, which means that flight prices to the destination have dropped, especially when it comes to direct flights. Even on connecting flights over Saudi Arabia, prices are expected to fall as soon as airlines can fly to and from Israel over Saudi territory.

It is important to note that almost all foreign companies are allowed to fly over Saudi Arabia when not flying to and from Israel, only flights to and from Israel are a problem for quite a few countries in the world and of course Saudi Arabia which is spread over a huge area. To airlines and of course it will roll over to passengers.

Countries to which flights will benefit from a significant reduction in flight time and more favorable prices will include India, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philippines, China, Singapore and even Australia. Of course flights to Dubai will also be relatively short due to the possibility of flying over Saudi Arabia, as the United Arab Emirates borders Saudi Arabia, Oman and right across the sea is Iran, above which of course it is not possible to fly.
