Back to school: school at home, "we won't make it a second time"

Emilie, mother of two schoolgirls aged 3 and 5, fears having to juggle again between children and work if schools and

For Emilie, things are clear: no question of replaying the not funny sketch that she suffered between March and May. "Above all, we cannot set out again at the same pace as during the confinement period", confides this marketing manager in the health sector who, in the spring, was only able to benefit from a single day off for custody of her two daughters aged 3 and 5.

All the rest of the time, in a professional environment "not very open to accommodation", she and her husband juggled meetings and preparing meals, games and reports, emails and stories ... "We won't get there a second time. . If it starts again, we're going straight into the wall, ”she announces. Faced with the uncertainty that the Covid-19 poses to the start of the school year, the subject, less than two weeks before the return to class, has invited himself these last evenings to the summer dinner table: who will stop when needed? Will we be able to manage the situation if school only resumes part-time?

A case of coronavirus at the nursery

Anxiety rises all the more that just before the holidays, at the beginning of August, a case of Covid-19 in the nursery of Romy, the youngest, sowed "a very particular climate, anxiety", notes the young mother, installed in a small town sheltered from the storms of the news. “Until now, we had the impression of being a little spared. But there was this contamination of a family, a lot of tourists in the region this summer… "And Emilie wonders how long it will pass before the virus strikes again in Lans-en-Vercors (Isère).

The tribe took precautions before leaving on vacation, delayed for a few days by Romy's fortnight: everyone took a test (after days of looking for an available laboratory) before packing for Brittany. Alas, the sea air has still not got the better of the intense fatigue of the Isérois, literally emptied by the relentless life of the last few months. Of course, there was the period of official confinement and homeschooling… but also the going through of an equally disorganized summer.

Because of the closure until July 14 of the recreation center, then the impossibility of entrusting the children as planned to the grandparents, the parents found themselves at the time of the long school holidays ... in the same situation as in March: full work, the computer, the little ones in the living room and no buoy to hang on.

A cartoon during the work meeting

“When we each have a meeting at 9 am, what do we do? Well, we put a cartoon, while we are against the screens, ”says Emilie, who considers that the repeated stabs in the educational contract have left traces. “I find my daughters a little changed, they are more demanding because they saw us give in on certain things. They no longer hesitate to ask for a candy before lunch, because we have already given them some on the days when we did not have time to cook them on time. "

Emilie is also worried about the image that her children will forge for themselves of a masked, distanced school, where we now talk more about protocols than about school projects. “This is our youngest's first return to school. Will she experience the same beautiful schooling conditions as her big sister? Their mom asks. She is afraid she already knows the answer: no.
