"We are here today to pray, to commemorate and remember. To remember so as not to forget, two years later, a harrowing tragedy that swept away two groups of hikers along the Raganello gorges, here in Civita, causing the death of 10 people". (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - CIVITA, 20 AUG - "We are here today to pray, to commemorate and remember. To remember not to forget, after two years, a heartbreaking tragedy that swept away two groups of hikers along the Raganello gorges, here in Civita, causing death of 10 people ". This was stated by the eparch of Longro, Msgr. Donato Oliverio during the homily of the function celebrated in the church of Santa Maria Assunta in suffrage of the victims of 20 August 2018, nine hikers and a guide, overwhelmed and killed by a sudden flood wave of the stream.
"We are in this Church to address - continued the Eparch - our prayer to God and to entrust to his mercy all those people who have lost their lives.
Remembering them is necessary, indeed it is a duty. What happened is a drama for everyone, for Civita, for the countries they belong to and for the ecclesial community. Once again we want to offer the families of these deceased our closeness, our participation made not of words of circumstance, but of prayer. These brothers of ours left this world in a terrible and sudden way, but they were welcomed with love in the arms of God, they entered eternal life. I am with God forever and since God is here, they too are here with us ".
" That unpredictable event - said the mayor of Civita, Alessandro Tocci - sowed death and fear. We as the administration, in agreement with the parish, have decided to celebrate a mass in suffrage today for the victims of the tragedy. The state of mind is the same as it was two years ago, I remember all those people who are gone and a hug to their families. Civita is a community that has responded well after the first dark days when the main square had become a media circus. Little by little we rolled up our sleeves and resumed daily life, proving to be a strong community and giving an example of full cooperation in those tragic days. Civitar will always remember the ten victims. We ask to know the truth, but the most important thing I think is to know the skills ".
