According to media reports, Duchess Meghan is taking part in a discussion event on the occasion of the presidential election in the USA - and has thus sparked fierce criticism. The 39-year-old appears as a guest at an online meeting to encourage women to cast their votes in the November election.

This was announced by the organizers of the #whenallwomenvote online meeting on Twitter. Meghan was invited as a surprise guest. There was no official confirmation from the spokesman for Meghan Markle in London. Angry British people on social media called for the Duchess of Sussex to give up her title as she interfered in U.S. political affairs.

Meghan is considered a sharp critic of US President Donald Trump. She had threatened to emigrate from the United States in previous years if Trump ever became president of the country.

The "When we all vote" initiative was founded in 2018 by former First Lady Michelle Obama, among others. Her husband, ex-President Barack Obama, recently criticized his Republican successor Trump very sharply at the US Democratic party conference.

Prince Harry (35) and Meghan broke away from the royal family in March - but they are still royals. Members of the royal family traditionally do not vote; but there is no law. Queen Elizabeth II (94) is politically neutral. Meghan had mentioned in an interview with the magazine "Marie Claire" that she would cast her vote in the US elections.

After working in Canada and the US metropolis Los Angeles, Harry and Meghan live with their one-year-old son Archie in the Californian coastal city of Santa Barbara. Many British people still resent the so-called Megxit to this day.

The online meeting #whenallwomenvote should take place late Thursday evening (11 p.m. CEST).
