The Government announced this Friday the start of phase III clinical trials of the Chinese vaccine for coronavirus in the country after the approval of the ANMAT.

The studies with the SinoPharm Group vaccine will be carried out in conjunction with the Elea Laboratory , announced the Minister of Health, Ginés González García, during a ceremony attended by authorities from Argentina, China and the companies involved. Like AstraZeneca, Elea belongs in part to the Argentine empress Hugo Sigman.

"We are very proud of this achievement in which the parties have committed every effort so that we can advance together and in solidarity to obtain vaccines available to our people," said González García.

The minister highlighted the "effort" of Argentina and expressed "the pride of having technical capacity, technological development and clinical trajectory", at the same time he stressed that "the enormous work and international recognition that ANMAT has is impressive".

Regarding the approval of the Phase III clinical trial by ANMAT, González García stated: "We are eager for the study to begin to obtain results and share them."

For his part, the president of Sinopharm Group, Liu Youg, said that since June meetings and technical meetings have been held with members of the Ministry of Health of the Nation and with the Argentine ambassador to China, Luis María Klecker, in order to achieve consensus for international collaboration.

The Chinese Embassy in Argentina also participated in the negotiations.

"Although China and Argentina are separated by an ocean, they are deeply connected heart to heart in the face of the pandemic and we are fighting side by side and moving towards the same path," Youg.

China currently has two advanced stage vaccines, both developed with state support. SinoPharm's will be commercially available by the end of the year, Liu Jingzhen, chairman of the Chinese state pharmaceuticals, told a Communist Party daily on Tuesday.
