A study revealed that there is an association between rice consumption and cardiovascular disease, is it safe to eat this food?

A recent study by the Universities of Manchester and Salford showed that rice can have low levels of arsenic, which when consumed for a long time can cause preventable deaths.

Researchers found that exposure to low levels of inorganic arsenic is linked to different health problems, such as cancer and cardiovascular disease.

These findings were published in the scientific journal Science of the Total Environment , where it was reported that there is a significant association between cardiovascular mortality and the consumption of rice containing inorganic arsenic.

"The type of study conducted, an ecological study, has many limitations, but it is a relatively inexpensive way to determine whether there is a plausible link between increased consumption of rice with inorganic arsenic and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease," said Professor David Polya from the University of Manchester to the Daily Mirror site .

According to the expert, the risk increases by 6% in those who eat a diet high in rice.

Currently, more than three billion people around the world consume rice as a staple food and is part of their daily or frequent eating habits.

Despite the discoveries made with this study, experts do not advise that people should avoid rice, but instead consume different types of rice that contain less inorganic arsenic, such as basmati or polished rice.

In the same way, it is recommended to have a varied and balanced diet, where the base is not rice.

To carry out the study, the researchers took data from local authorities in England and Wales.
