The milk substitute has enjoyed increasing popularity in recent years. With 34 million liters sold in 2018, the sales figures have doubled compared to 2016.

Vegan oat milk tested by Stiftung Warentest

The oat drinks ( vegan ) rated surprisingly well in the test by Stiftung Warentest consist mainly of water and, as the name suggests, oats . The 18 oat drinks assessed by Stiftung Warentest contained between 9 and 16 percent oats.

According to Stiftung Warentest , the production is also more water-saving than with cow's milk. For example, a liter of cow's milk consumes a full 250 liters of water, while the vegan alternative made from oats only consumes 3.4 liters.

In the test by Stiftung Warentest, 18 different oat drinks ( vegan ) were rated. Of these, seven were calcium fortified and eleven were not. With the exception of four of the oat drinks, all products in the test were able to show an organic seal. In addition to products from well-known brands such as Kölln and Alpro , the discounters' own brands were also examined carefully .

The surprising thing about the test was that none of the oat drinks were rated worse than "satisfactory". The testers from Stiftung Warentest rated only three of the 18 oat drinks as having an excellent taste.

Test with vegan oat milk: Stiftung Warentest - This is the best rated oat drink

In the test by Stiftung Warentest , the oat drink (vegan) from the Kölln company  (advertising link) won the race. The experts from Stiftung Warentest gave it the best rating in the entire test. No harmful substances could be detected in the oat drink rated “good” (1.8)

According to Stiftung Warentest, the aroma is only natural in the oat drink with the product name Oats Liebe Klassik. The oats used come from Germany . According to the testers, its taste is full-bodied with a strong oat note.

With an overall rating of 1.9 and thus classified as good, two oat drinks were able to finish in a comparison by Stiftung Warentest . Second place went to the oat drink from the Edeka Bio + Vegan range and a competing product from Oatly. No harmful substances were found in the classic oat drink from the Bio + Vegan range by Edeka .

Although the product has not been specifically fortified with calcium, it has a fairly high calcium content. The oat drink can also score with a strong oat note and an oat content of twelve percent. However, the oat drink stood out  due to its high sugar content in a comparison by Stiftung Warentest. This was namely the highest in the test.

Also in second place in the comparison by Stiftung Warentest is the Hafer Barista Edition from Oatly. The slightly sweet oat drink ( vegan ) was positively noticed in the test due to its very strong oat note, as it is still not bitter.

According to the experts at Stiftung Warentest, the drink with the highest calorie content can be frothed up, a real barista edition. Stiftung Warentest points out, however, that the oat drink, which is also one of the winners of the test in terms of taste, is now available in stores with a different recipe.

In terms of taste, the experts from Stiftung Warentest recommend the test winner from Kölln. But the oats - Drinks ( vegan ) brand Oatly came taste good.
