Storm low "Kirsten" causes trees to topple - route closures in NRW

Falling branches, uprooted trees, blocked roads and rails: Storm low "Kirsten" has caused some damage in NRW. Midsummer will not return to Germany in the coming days either.

Storm low "Kirsten" swept over North Rhine-Westphalia on Wednesday morning with some strong gusts. In many places the fire brigades reported operations because of fallen trees. In Hünxe, Lower Rhine, a car driver suffered minor injuries when a tree fell on her bonnet. According to the police, a motorcyclist in Kleve was injured by a falling branch. In rail traffic, uprooted trees blocked routes.

At Dortmund-Aplerbeck , Deutsche Bahn said it had evacuated a local train. Around a hundred travelers had to leave the regional express because it could not continue because of a tree lying on the track. There were also closures on railway lines near Cologne, Ennepetal, Schwerte and Aachen . The consequences were diversions and delays. On Autobahn 44, a truck overturned on the autobahn, the route in the direction of Aachen was closed.

Strong wind in almost all of Germany

The German Weather Service (DWD) expected stormy gusts or gusts of wind in almost all of Germany this Wednesday. Heavy gusts of wind are possible in the mountains and in individual valleys, and gale gusts in exposed summit areas, it was said in the morning. Stormy gusts at speeds of up to 75 kilometers per hour are also possible in the south . Squalls and heavy squalls are limited to higher mountain locations.

On Saturday there can be persistent precipitation, especially south of the Danube. Otherwise it will be cloudy according to the forecasts. The maximum values ​​are 19 to 23 degrees, in the south it can get even cooler when it rains continuously.
