SPIEGEL: Why did you take on the case?
Wolters: It appealed to me professionally to obtain at least a "partial acquittal" of a defendant who was investigated for murder and who is charged with manslaughter. The fraud to the detriment of the pension insurance was certain and was not attacked by us. For example, I don't like to defend young people who beat up disabled people. Inwardly, I demand higher penalties than the public prosecutor's office (laughs) .
SPIEGEL : What was your strategy when you entered the negotiation?
Wolters : The man Angelika Hosang killed was not a good person, so we could plead for self-defense. If it hadn't worked, the statute of limitations still remained. Homicide usually expires after 20 years. Everything indicates that Walter Emmerich died in 1995.
