On January 1, 2021, the child benefit will be increased by 15 euros. Many parents will think better than nothing. But with a few tips, you can save 100 euros!

  • Constantly new clothes, pocket money or diapers: Children cost money.
  • In Germany, families are supported with child benefit *: the state provides 204 euros a month for the first and second child, 210 euros for the third child and 235 euros for the fourth and each additional child.
  • In 2021, the family benefits will add 15 euros: So 219 euros for the first and second, 225 euros for the third and 250 euros for each additional child. But if you follow a few rules, you can get more out of it - by optimizing the monthly expenses for the child .

Of course, you shouldn't skimp on important corners, such as a healthy diet for your child, health care, membership in an association or educational offers. But there are some superfluous items that can be screwed on without problems. RTL reporter Ingo Jacobs tried out on himself how much money he can save per month if he sticks to cheap alternatives for his children - with resounding success.

Dad on austerity course: families can put this much money aside if they know the following tricks

For the project, Jacobs went deep into himself and found the most expensive items that arise with children. These include trips, new clothes and books. The following savings tips resulted in savings potential of a whopping 95 euros for Jacobs !

  • Do not buy new children's clothing : daycare flea markets, online marketplaces such as Mamikreisel and children's clothing from friends that their children have long outgrown: There are countless ways to get beautiful children's clothing - without buying new ones.
  • Have toys given : When you arrive at the toy store, at least one doll, board game or construction kit ends up in the shopping cart. It is much smarter to have toys given to you. Grandma, aunt and godmother will be happy if you regularly send them tips on the right gifts. Or you can take a look at flea markets: With a little luck, you can get hold of brand new toys at bargain prices.
  • Vacation swap business : If the whole family wants to take a two-week vacation, it can be very expensive. But if you choose the right accommodation, you can save up to 1,000 euros a year. There are now some online platforms that make it possible to swap apartments or houses, as rtl.de informs. Simply register your own apartment or house, exchange ideas with like-minded people and go on vacation for free. When doing your online research, however, make sure that you are dealing with a reputable broker. Experience reports are a good starting point here.
  • It doesn't always have to be the expensive amusement park : an expensive admission price doesn't necessarily mean your kids will have fun. A nice time together can also be experienced on a bike tour along the nearest river - including a picnic at the swimming lake.
