In the video - the mother of Hani Bo Bo was also accused of overfeeding her daughter

Parents from Guangzhou, southern China, are accused of cruelty to their 3-year-old daughter after opening an account on the local streaming platform Xigua and posting videos of her being required to eat large amounts of junk food and gain weight. One of the videos even states that the girl weighs 35 kilograms and that the parents expect her to gain an additional 15 kilograms. The videos are ostensibly part of a popular online phenomenon from South Korea known as “live eating” and these are meant to win over audiences and bring in money from views.

The girl named Pei Kay, who is extremely overweight, is seen in the videos eating all kinds of junk food like fried chicken, burgers, hot dogs, noodles and cakes. One of the videos on the channel, which opened in October 2018, garnered 550,000 views. In one of them, the girl is seen begging her parents to stop feeding her, but they fill her another plate. The account was removed from the site after surfers' complaints.

More than 130,000 Weibo surfers, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, claimed that the parents' behavior, whose name was not released, was detrimental to the girl's health and that it was clear that they did so in order to make money. "The parents use the girl as a hen that lays golden eggs. They do not care about her health," wrote one and another added: "This is child abuse! There are people who do not deserve to be parents. It makes me so angry!". A third user wrote: "The authorities should investigate this and punish the parents severely."

Pei Ki's parents vehemently denied the allegations against them, claiming that the girl was healthy and that they filmed the videos "for fun". The mother told the Chinese media: "Our videos were not just of the girl eating. There were also videos of her dancing and losing weight. She is my daughter, why should I feed her so much on purpose? She has always been a big girl." Her father added: "Yes we made some money, maybe a few hundred yuan, but that's just a number for us." The Women's Federation of China, an official organization that protects the rights and well - being of women and children, has opened an investigation into the incident.
