Is the water constantly flowing out of the cistern *? This not only makes for a pretty annoying background noise, but also pulls the money out of your pocket. Usually, however, you can get this problem under control on your own.
Cistern continues to run: What can be the cause of an ongoing toilet flush
If the toilet continues to flush , there could be several reasons. The following three causes are likely:
- Problem with the float : The float regulates the liquid level in the cistern (promotional link). If this gets stuck, it no longer works properly and ensures that water continues to run into the toilet. It is also possible that the rigid foam has soaked itself with water and can therefore no longer rise high enough: The water inlet no longer closes.
- The cylinder head gasket is dirty, calcified or defective.
- Inlet valve does not close properly despite an intact seal, for example due to limescale deposits.

Water from the cistern continues to run: How to fix the problem with the toilet
Before opening the cistern lid, you should first shut off the water supply . The corresponding valve can be found near the cistern. Now press the rinse to let the water run out. Now take off the cover, which is either pinned or screwed on. Once the lid is off, you can press the flush button to see the mechanics inside. Make a good note of where which parts are installed or, best of all, take a photo.
If the water continues to run due to limescale deposits on the functional parts, you should remove them and clean them. Porous sealing rings are replaced. You can also grasp the lifting bell and detach it from the bayonet socket by turning it to the left. Carefully remove the device and put on a new ring.
Then use the pliers to pull down the visible rubber seals on the functional parts and also loosen the sieve from the inlet line. Now put all components in a cleaning mixture of diluted vinegar essence, vinegar cleaner or descaler for about two hours.
As soon as everything has been cleaned and dried, reinstall the functional parts and sealing rings. Here you can help again with a pair of pliers, but be careful of the sensitive plastic parts . It is important that the rotatable bayonet lock of the lifting bell engages normally again.
Now it is time to reopen the water inlet to check the water level . If this is below the marking line inside the container, everything is fine. If it rises above it, simply readjust an adjusting screw on the float, which is attached vertically.
Finally, close the cistern and rinse once . If it still doesn't work properly, it's probably time to replace the float valve.
