Photo: Chris Pizzello / APKaty Perry and Orlando Bloom have become parents to a daughter. "Welcome to the world. Daisy Dove Bloom," wrote Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund, and posted a photo on Instagram showing the hands of Bloom, Perry and the baby.
The organization said it would be an honor to introduce the child to the singer and actor. "We float with love and wonder," the two of Unicef are quoted as saying about the girl's birth. "We know that we are the lucky ones, and that not everyone has such a peaceful birth experience."
Together with Unicef, the couple used the post to draw attention to the difficult situation of mothers all over the world. There is still a shortage of medical staff and a pregnant woman or a newborn baby dies every eleven seconds.
The corona pandemic also endangers children. Because there is an increasing shortage of water, soap, vaccines and medicines. "As parents of a newborn, this breaks our hearts, because now more than ever we have compassion for struggling parents." Bloom and Perry said they had set up a fundraising page to celebrate their daughter's arrival and called for generosity.
Before their babies were born, Perry said in an interview that she was excited to be a mother for the first time amid a global pandemic. During her pregnancy she had already experienced "every feeling under the sun" and named as examples fear, exuberant joy, overstrain and depression. "The world is just in a wild time and it is a wild time to bring life to the world."
Perry also said that there are "many rules" in parenting and that you start making sacrifices right away. "You start to become a mother or a parent as soon as you are pregnant. Definitely," said the 35-year-old.
About her fiancé Bloom, Perry said he was thrilled to have a baby girl. The 43-year-old already has a son with Australian model Miranda Kerr: nine-year-old Flynn. It's Perry's first child. She has been in a relationship with Bloom since 2016.
