After a serious car accident on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm, the police are looking for a refugee driver.
In the clash, a 45-year-old woman was life-threatening and her 17-year-old daughter was seriously injured, the police said.
A car had rammed the small car of the two women on Monday evening at an intersection in Charlottenburg.
According to witness statements, an illegal car race is said to have caused the accident.
The second car hit three other parked cars after the collision.
The unknown inmates, who apparently remained unharmed, then fled from the scene of the accident in the direction of Halensee.
A total of two other cars were involved in the illegal race.
Debris from the cars flew through the air
The "Bild" newspaper and the "BZ" had previously reported that it was an illegal race with three participating cars.
The Berlin fire brigade was at the scene of the accident with 36 emergency services during the night.
According to the police, the Kurfürstendamm between Dahlmannstrasse and Nestorstrasse had to be closed in all directions until around 3 a.m.
According to media reports, the debris from the cars flew 100 meters through the air, two passers-by were hit and injured.
The alleged cause of the accident and two other occupants of his car fled on foot.
There have been repeated illegal races on Kurfürstendamm.
In February 2016 there was a collision with a jeep for which the traffic light was green.
The car was thrown 70 meters.
The 69-year-old driver died in his car.
One of the three speeders was convicted of murder.
Illegal street races have been considered a criminal offense in Germany since 2017 and no longer an administrative offense.
According to the penal code, this is punishable by a fine or up to two years in prison - and up to ten years if someone is seriously injured or killed.
