The carabinieri from the local station and colleagues from the Mercato San Severino company intervened together with the municipal police.
Investigators found a head wound on the newborn's body.
The body, after the external examination carried out by the coroner, was transferred to the morgue of the Nocera Inferiore hospital where it will be subjected to an autopsy.
The newborn, at the time of the discovery, still had the umbilical cord attached.
The main hypothesis is that he was born a few hours ago.
The discovery took place in a residential parc.
It remains to be seen whether the injury was caused by the fall or before.
"It is a huge tragedy that has shaken our community", Carmine Pagano, the mayor of Roccapiemonte, told ANSA who, as soon as he heard the news, went to the place.
"I hope this story can be resolved soon, whoever is the culprit remains an endless tragedy."
