is a very popular drink for many Germans.

Every German citizen drank 6.8 liters on average in 2019.

Only when it comes to orange juice do Germans buy a little more often.

There is a correspondingly large selection of different products on the domestic market.

The experts also discovered some brands with residues of harmful substances.

examined

a total of 25 apple juices made from

organic

and conventional apples.

All products in the test were obtained from not-from-concentrate juice.

Juices made from fruit juice concentrate were not included in the test.

According to the legal definition in Germany, fruit juice always has a fruit content of 100 percent.

This means that no colorings, preservatives, flavor enhancers or sugar are added.

Only the sugar naturally occurring in apples is allowed in the fruit juice.

Juices that have a fruit juice content of less than 100 percent are called nectar.

The Öko-Test testers tested the taste, smell, appearance and feel in the mouth (sensory properties).

The advertising of the articles was checked for obvious and therefore meaningless promises.

Two independent laboratories carried out extensive chemical tests on all products.

On the one hand, the exposure to pollutants such as pesticides, mold toxins (patulin), copper, aluminum and alcohols such as ethanol and methanol should be determined.

It was also tested whether growth hormones, chloride compounds or volatile acids are found in the juices and how high the sugar content of the juices is.

In addition, it was checked whether vitamin C was added to the juices.

Apple juice in the test: organic clearly ahead

The good news for customers: the vast majority of

The experts rated 18 out of 25 juices “very good”.

Four juices achieved a “good”.

Only three juices made one satisfactory.

In the test, the juices made from

organic apples came out

All 8 organic apple juices tested were free from injection poisons.

In contrast, residues of pesticides were found in all conventional apple juices without organic.

Customers still have to be careful.

The experts found residues of injection poisons in all of these brands.

In some even from up to four different pesticides.

This did not affect the test score because the toxins were only found in small traces that are not dangerous to humans.

Demeter apparently has problems with its organic apple juice in production.

According to the Öko-Test testers, it tastes oxidized and old or bitter.

They attribute this to microbial changes.

Vitamin C has been artificially added to

apple juices

from Globus and Pfanner, which

punishes.

The experts also found residues of acetamidprid in the juice from Pfanner.

This is an insecticide that has been classified as very questionable.
