“As I sit down to write this letter, we are in month six of the global health crisis.

When we first locked ourselves in, I had just performed at the Super Bowl and the Grammys.

(...) I felt secure in my career.

When it all stopped, I felt adrift, like many others who read these lines, I'm sure, ”she

begins.

Demi Lovato explains that the pandemic has rekindled the anxiety that has always characterized her.

To the point of asking a whole bunch of questions about death, work or the future.

“I felt secure in my career.

When it all stopped, I felt adrift ”

The singer does not hesitate to approach a sensitive subject like its relation to "

mental illness

" and "

depression

".

“One of the positive aspects of the pandemic is that it has shed light on mental health like never before.

For many years, mental illness was seen as a disgrace.

It comes from ignorance.

People just didn't understand what it was, people were afraid of words like anxiety and depression, ”she

explains, delighted that things were moving in the right direction.

"I grew up listening to Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and other singers, but it was these two black women in particular who made me the singer that I am"

In addition to the coronavirus and the acceptance of mental disorders, Demi Lovato wanted to talk about another cause close to her heart: Black Lives Matter.

“I am in the

'at risk' category

for Covid-19 due to my asthma and other health issues, so I was unable to attend the protests.

But there are things that I was able to do from home via the networks ”

, she says, specifying that the glamorous photos gave way to other publications claiming at the time of the death of Ahmaud Arbery in February.

“In this particular case, what motivated me was knowing that a big part of myself comes from black culture.

I grew up listening to Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and other singers, but it was these two black women in particular that made me the singer that I am, ”she

says.

Embarrassed by all these

"racial"

questions

, Demi Lovato says she thought of calling all the people of color around her.

"I hated sharing the same skin color as those accused of committing heinous crimes against Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and many, many other black lives."

I also wanted to call all the people of color I knew and apologize, which is also not

the right thing to do,”

says Demi Lovato.

“Like a lot of people, I didn't know what to do.

All I knew was that I hated sharing the same skin color as those accused of committing heinous crimes against Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and many, many other black lives, ”

laments she does.

On the other hand, she says she is satisfied that the world is finally opening their eyes to these questions as well as to the #MeToo movement.
