Thursday September 3 marks an important date in the turbulent history of
Liberation
.
Yesterday, the daily once again changed owners and is now placed under the leadership of an endowment fund for the independence of the press.
A non-profit foundation, like Mediapart created one in 2019. The former owner Altice, the telecoms and media group of Patrick Drahi, no longer has any legal or economic ties with Liberation.
The 200 daily employees welcomed this transfer with “enthusiasm”, but also with a lot of mistrust.
They wonder about the weakness of the financial means that the businessman agrees to grant to the foundation to ensure the smooth running of the newspaper over the next three years.
Assisted by the Technologia firm, they assess the needs of
Liberation
at 21 or even 30 million euros.
But Altice endowed the foundation with only 15 million.
