A calf escaped from a pasture has involuntarily demonstrated its swimming skills in Schlitzenhausen in East Hesse.
The young cow was discovered by the residents of a family house in a swimming pool in the garden on Saturday morning, the police said.
Presumably, the animal therefore thought the pool cover was a solid surface and fell into the water.
Until help came, the calf swam for its life.
The police said it was able to "stay afloat for a long period of time".
The animal only needed help getting out of the car: the local fire brigade pumped a large part of the water out of the pool, pulled the completely soaked animal out with ropes and brought it to its owner.
The police said he had congratulated the young animal on passing the "free swimmer" with pats.
Two other calves, who had also broken out of the paddock, were denied entry to the swimming pool by the fire brigade.
